"We do not stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing."

Our first equipment arrived late October, 2006. The rains had already started, work on the right-of-way was difficult due to the mud, so it was temporarily suspended.
Since it was important to find a dry place for the new equipment it was decided to switch effort to building an engine house.. The only space available was an area directly behind the play yard. Due to the slope of the land it required up to 3 feet of soil to be excavated and a retaining wall built. (in hindsight, any other location would have been better). The very atypical constant drizzle we experienced through much of November and December made the excavation difficult as the tractor could not get a grip in the slimy clay.
When the cut was nearing completion at the end of December, the tractor clipped the top of a previously unknown 4" pipe that went to a leach field. In no time at all, the cut was full of a very foul smelling liquid. After many bucket trips and thankfully a few sunny days in early January, we were able to repair the pipe,  finish the cut, put in the drain field and back-fill with gravel.
Work was immediately started on the RR tie foundation, and then the walls.
An early opportunity came up to lay some track, so the wall work was temporarily stopped until the first track was placed.

The photos below outline the project to date:
