FAQ

Where is CVRY located?

CVRY occupies a small part of Big Oak Ranch, a working horse ranch, located approximately 20 miles south of San Jose, California.

Is CVRY a club, and how do I join?

CVRY is a privately owned railroad where groups of friends, or friends to be made, get together to play trains. You are welcome to visit the railroad and participate in any of the activities as an invited guest, please contact us first.

What is the current status of the railroad?

The railroad is in the very beginning stages. There are ties and rail for 1000 feet of track to be laid, and many projects to work on. If you are interested in working on any of the projects, let us know.

What is the scale of the railroad?

The railroad is built as a 2-1/2 inch scale narrow-gauge railroad. However, any equipment built for a nominal 7-1/2 inch gauge is welcome.

What visiting equipment is allowed?

Equipment in 2-1/2 inch scale, as well as other scales is welcome, as long as it meets IBLS standards for 7-1/2 inch gauge. Wherever possible clearances have been made wider to accommodate some of the 3-3/4 inch scale equipment. Due to immoveable objects, we have one 50-foot mainline radius. All other radii are a minimum 85 feet.

What are some of the equipment limitations?

  • We are located in an arid hillside location. This means that operation of coal or wood fired equipment must be limited to the rainy season ( Dec.-Mar.) to avoid fires.
  • The tightest radius is 50 feet, on the shop loop
  • There is one mainline grade of 4%, with several others at 2%

DEDICATION

This railroad is dedicated to Daisy (1995-2002), constant companion and enthusiastic participant in anything I was doing. Together, we have walked every inch of the proposed right-of-way a hundred times over, me, trying to sight the correct line around the hillside, she, hoping there would be a squirrel around the next bend.
Rest in Peace, my little Friend.
